German email security provider eleven announced on Tuesday it has released the results of its spring survey report, which showed among other things that German IT decision makers continue to see an increase in threat from dangerous or undesired emails.
The report follows the release of eleven Email Security Report February 2013, which saw the United States top the total spam volume in the world.
Conducted in March 2013, the survey saw 46 percent of respondents expecting a further increase in threat levels, while 49.2 percent believe that they will at least remain constant in the next few years.
None of the companies surveyed think that the threats will decrease, while 88.9 percent said that the threat from spam or malware has remained at the same level or has increased.
Only 9.5 percent of the respondents thought that the threat had grown weaker.

IT decision makers said that they consider drive by attacks to be the most dangerous threat to Internet security. Drive by attacks occur via emails with links to websites that are manipulated to infect users computers with malware when the websites are opened in a browser.
Other targeted attacks include spear phishing (17.5 percent), new virus variants that are not yet detectable by conventional virus scanners (17.5 percent), and attacks on mobile end devices (14.3 percent).
For German IT decision makers, the main task of email security is to prevent the false categorization of legitimate emails so they are not rejected as spam, which is why nearly50 percent of the respondents listed the false positive rate of an email security solution as their key selection criteria. This is a substantial increase over two years ago, when only 29.9 percent gave this response.
The November eleven Email Security report showed that six European countries were among the top ten spam senders.
